TaylorMade SIM Drivers in Play at the South African Open

The 2020 European Tour season officially kicks off this week with the South African Open from the Randpark Golf Course in Johannesburg.

Not surprisingly the newly launched SIM metalwoods have created a buzz as members of Team TaylorMade took their first look and bombed SIM driver downrange with plenty of players stopping to take note. Nicolai Højgaard’s ball speed was 25mph quicker than his neighbour!

Rasmus Højgaard jumped into the spotlight after he went birdie-birdie-eagle in a play-off to win the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at the start of December. He’s on the European Tour’s ‘Five Players to Watch’ in 2020 and with SIM Max he’s increased his club head speed by 3mph vs his gamer (M5 Driver), Rasmus has a 10.5° set 1 lower for spin control.

Rasmus Højgaard's WITB:

Gavin Green is playing a higher lofted SIM driver set at 9° to get the correct spin for the altitude this week and has an increase of 2mph club head speed. He completes his SIM metalwood line up with a SIM Max 3-wood and 5-wood.

“I took 11 drivers out to South Africa, these were pre-built drivers for those who play our product currently and took metal woods for those playing in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. SIM driver launched higher with less spin and we could afford to give players more loft versus M5/ M6 to maximise performance.”

Loving the sound, feel and performance, Max Schmitt has gained ball speed and spin off his high toe mishit by playing a degree more loft in SIM driver.

“Every player commented on how much more stable the SIM drivers felt and how their misses on the golf courses were so much better than previous seasons. They put this down to the new top line and face angle. I worked with a European Tour player out on the course and he didn't miss a shot, he had tighter dispersion versus his M5 gamer and he commented that he loved the stability and versatility of SIM driver and is in his bag this week”

With many of these players tweaking their equipment for the high altitude, they will catch up with our tour team out in the Middle East to look at their equipment again. Additionally, many more members of Team TaylorMade will make their season debut in the UAE and keep an eye out on the leading three players in the top ten, if they are not already exempt they will earn their place in the field for the 149th Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club!
