Located in Muscat, Oman, along a 2km stretch of coastline the 7,342-yard championship course boasts lush green grass, accented with bunkers, water hazards and natural dunes.
With the Indian Ocean being close to the greens, you might think hitting into the rough will be the main issue for players this week, however players will also have to factor in cross winds as they make their way around this scenic course.
The 466-yard par four 18th hole now forces players to hit driver after it was extended a couple years ago. With anything right finding water and the green also guarded by water, expect the 18th to be pivotal over the weekend.
Coming back from injury Victor Dubuisson made the switch into new product in Dubai and after a successful start to the 2019 season, Victor’s finding his feet and ready to take his game to the next level.
After speaking to Adrian Rietveld in Saudi Arabia, feeling that his numbers were not what they used to be, Victor wanted to look at how he could change his bag set up to improve this. Our tour team sent out a set of P760 irons for Victor to test and they’ve gone straight in the bag this week.
With good launch characteristics and slighter faster off the face, Victor gained nearly 2-3mph more ball speed club vs club against his previous P730 irons. Without sacrificing any distance or control his launch and spin characteristics resulted in better carry numbers in his long irons and with great feedback he made the switch.
Gaming the M6 driver since Dubai, Victor plays like an artist, he has the ability to play a variety of shots and when fitting him into the new product it was more about when he needs to hit a draw he can, and when he needs to hit a fade he can. In the upcoming week’s Victor will be working with the tour team on different shaft options, but his driver set up this week is a M6 9°, Fujikura 661 Evo 5 X.
Playing a 38-inch Spider Tour Red with no loft and a stiff shaft, Victor’s putter spec is very unique. He likes the stability of the Spider putter however Spider X has caught his eye and the tour team will build up his spec and further testing will be done with Victor on his putter.
